All About AutumnšŸ‚

Where I live, the weather is already getting a little cooler, mainly in the morning. As this season asks us to slow down, I wanted to share what has helped me feel safe, comforted, and warm during autumn. Below you’ll find autumn tips that help our bodies within and without focusing on touch, smell, sound, sight, and touch.

  1. Warm drinks – Warm drinks help your body feel safe, it helps your nervous system feel comforted. I used to be an iced drink lover but after learning about this, I switched back to warm drinks again and for me? It’s the perfect thing I didn’t know my body needed.Have a warm drink first thing in the morning along with water (to stay hydrated). Our bodies are 80% water and hydration is important in every season. It is highly likely you will feel a difference in the rest of your day and how you feel. I also always have a warm drink while writing, like right now, even if I don’t finish it, I feel safe and comforted sipping on it or holding it in my hands when I take a pause. A hot drink is proven to release a bit of oxytocin as well as help our subconscious mind feel safe. This may be a hack for writers by the way. šŸ˜‰
  2. Listening to audios and playlists with autumn songs – You may be thinking what are autumn songs Rubi? Honestly, something comforting and nostalgic for me. I listen to a bunch of playlists in autumn, I also sometimes put on jazz with an autumn focus and any of these can easily be found on Youtube. I linked one below but there are many.

  4. Smells that support the season – I know not everyone is a lover of autumn smells, this could change your mind (maybe). It is proven that smells like pumpkin spice, cinnamon, sandalwood, and nutmeg can help the body feel safe and comforted. These scents are associated with earthy smells so a soft scented candle with this scent can improve the feeling of feeling grounded in the home or your desk. I love going for anything with cinnamon in it, I feel comfort and as if I brought the outdoors in. Lighting it at night before bed sets the space perfectly for me.Dim your lights, light the candle(s), and meditate, journal, or read a book that doesn’t make you think (nothing informational) to wind down the mind. Here you’re focusing on smell and sight. You can add sound and taste by playing instrumental jazz in the background and a warm drink before bed. For bed time, I usually do lavender tea all year round but you can choose to do autumn flavored teas that are caffeine free or whatever works for you to feel relaxed at night.
  5. Blankets that are cozy – This one may be more obvious but I always held off on getting a thick fleece blanket for I don’t know what reason. I have a warm blanket already but sometimes the dog wants it and I let her have it. This year? I went to get my own, thicker, warmer, and cozier with pumpkins on it for a low price. Now the dog (that isn’t mine btw) can have her blanket and I have mine. haha
  6. Soups– Yes, soups. These are warm and nourishing for the body, if you make them at home you can ensure you have more nutrients in them. You control the amount of carrot, squash, broccoli, corn, or meat you can place in a soup. Obviously you can use many other ingredients for all kinds of soups but I am simply thinking off the top of my head.

These are simple things you can do to feel more comfortable during autumn. You can actually use many of these little hacks all year round (like warm drinks).
