Why People Say to Pause During an Eclipse – Tradition and Eclipses ✨

We have a solar eclipse aligning with the New Moon in a few days. The eclipses are not as bad as people make them seem but I do believe you need to be cautious when they come about. With time you’ll have the inner knowing if you should do spiritual work on an eclipse day or not.

For me specifically, I have strong connections to Mayans and when I restarted my spiritual journey in 2019 I attempted to go visit Mayans on a yearly basis to connect deeper to the wisdom of the universe that exists. This knowing I’ve come to connect within me is deeper than I ever expected. The unseen realms are not something to play with. With that said, I am going to share what I’ve learned about Eclipses:

Solar Eclipses: A solar eclipse is seen as dangerous because of the darkness that hits earth, which in Mayan tradition we are meant to place protections upon ourselves and loved ones as it is a time that malevolent spirits search for souls to create misery in their life.

Lunar Eclipses: Lunar eclipses are not that dangerous because they happen at night and don’t block out any light, the cautions are not as severe but still there. At least adults don’t need to be as cautious but children and women do need to be placed under protections during this time because lunar eclipses connect to a woman goddess, Ixchel. She is a goddess of creation.

I usually wear a red ribbon during a solar eclipse as it represents fire, blood, life, and a form of protection for eclipse day. You can choose to do this on a lunar eclipse day for yourself and loved ones.

I am not as familiar with other cultures and traditions but I have learned that they also see these days as days to place up protections and the dangers of the day if we don’t. I really love how it aligns across cultures like Chinese, Hinduism, and Native Americans. Eclipses are also believed to rapidly push you forward like a new chapter or cause destruction in your life for the next chapter. They may feel like miracles arising or like things are falling apart. The reason is sometimes you need what you currently have to be released to get to the next level or stage of life. The closed door is needed to open the next door.

Now that we know a bit more about the eclipse days and we have one right around the corner, I want to inform you that if YOU choose to do any spiritual rituals, first place protections up. Many people choose not to do spiritual work during these eclipses because it MAY result in chaos but I personally have always done the work on eclipse days and have yet to see anything bad happen because of it, the only reason I had “chaos” in my life was because I stopped grounding and I didn’t know how to place protections up correctly nor was I smoke cleansing daily like I do now. I learned everything as I went because my mentor was no longer available and I did not know who to ask, until finally one mentor that is sometimes available was able to help me.

Please be mindful if you do get deeper into spirituality, the spiritual realms are not something that is simply easy peasy. It’s real embodied work we have to do and have to be mindful of what we do. Then you can make the choice if you are grounded enough and have placed protections up to be able to go deeper with self on eclipses like you would on other moon days.
